Welcome to 9-A!

Below is my last update before I leave for vacation. There has been some shifting of positions. The race is likely to end on Monday or Tuesday. Good luck to all the teams!

Sorry I couldn't get this update posted last night. I went to a fabulous cooking class and didn't get home until after 10:00-past my bedtime on a school night! Here are the standings as of 7:30 Friday morning:

At this point in the race, many of the front runners are in the middle of their 24 hour rest period. Each musher must take one 24 hour break at some point in the race. It is up to each individual racer to decide where he or she will take this rest. The leaders have decided to rest in Takotna. Some other teams have not taken their 24 hour break yet, and are in front of the leaders, in Ophir. This does not mean that they are "winning" however. They just have not taken their long break yet. By tomorrow night we should have a good idea about who is really "winning", although that does not mean that that person will win. There is still a lot of race to go. Here are the standings in our class:

We have a new leader! Martin Buser was the first musher to leave the Nikolai checkpoint, just as Iwas posting of this entry Sabastian Schnuelle left as well. Here is the our newest "leader board":

Last week each girl chose her favorite musher in the 2011 Iditarod. Below are pictures showing the order that the mushers are currently racing in. The first picture shows the team that is in the lead. Right now it is the girls who chose Lance Mackey.

To wrap up International Week, several students shared stories about their families' country of origin. Some girls even brought in photographs or items relating to their families' histories.
