Being Verbs

On Monday we learned about being verbs. The girls chanted, "Am, is, are, was, were, been, those are the verbs of being," over and over again until they had memorized the six being verbs. We also discussed that being verbs are also called linking verbs...because they link the subject and the predicate in a sentence. We sang the next two verses of our verb song, which you can watch below.

Papyrus-The Finished Product

On Friday afternoon the girls' homemade papyrus was dry and fused. Here are some pictures of the finished products!

Making Papyrus

We have been studying Ancient Egypt in history class. We have learned that the Egyptians wrote on papyrus, not paper. Paper hadn't been invented yet! They took strips of the papyrus plant, arranged them out close together, and dried them out. The result was a scroll of "paper" that they could write on. Yesterday 9-A made our own sheets of papyrus. Students will change the washcloths that soak up the excess water twice a day. The  should be dry and ready by Friday!

Greek Fashion Show

Today 9-A and 9-B participated in a Greek god and goddess fashion show. The girls dressed up as one of the twelve main Greek gods and goddesses. The had a chance to walk on stage in the auditorium, introduce themselves, and show off their costumes. As an added bonus their 6-D buddies came to watch!

Action Verbs

Today in grammar I introduced verbs. We discussed action verbs and the girls sung a song to help them remember what action verbs are.

Planting

Last week the Ninth Age met to plant over 700 seeds for Real Food Farms. This was a fantastic opportunity to get the whole grade together and to help our community at the same time.
