Welcome to 9-A!

The Ninth Agers all built small-scale trebuchets during the month of May. The girls had a great time building them and an even better time testing them out!

The first Ninth Age Crow/Canary game was played last week. There were two kickball games on Wednesday. The Crows won one of the games and the Canarys won the other. Great job girls!

I have been fostering five kittens for the past four weeks. They will stay with me until they are eight weeks old and weigh two pounds. At that time, I will return them to BARCS shelter and they will be adopted out. As a special treat, the girls got the chance to meet them!

This we we are focusing on descriptive writing in composition. Yesterday I asked the girls to write a paragraph explaining how to make an ice cream sandwich. Today I brought in the ingredients and attempted to make ice cream sandwiches following the girls directions. I told the girls that if anyone had written directions that I could successfully follow they would get to eat the sandwich. Needless to say, nobody got a treat today! Here is a video of some of my attempts.

Last month, the 9th Age Boy’s and 9th Age Girl’s classes began their “Recorder Composition Projects”. This project gave our Ninth Age students the opportunity to apply the music theory knowledge learned in class in a musical composition. This musical composition was written for their music instrument, the recorder. Each class has been divided into three groups of four and one group of five. The groups selected an appropriate “Name” for their group and composed an eight measure recorder composition that was performed in front of their peers and teachers in their music class. We thought you the parents would enjoy seeing these masterful composers and musicians for yourselves on this blog.
